What Are Sleeves?

Sleeves are typically used for plane bore wheels such as plastic wheels (nylon & polypropylene plastic wheels). They are also used for wheels with roller bearings and press fitted Teflon coated and bronze bushings. The outside diameter of a sleeve is precise with the inside diameter having an open tolerance to suit a variety if axle types such as commercial bolts. The principle of a sleeve is to be clamped tightly in place (typically between 2 brackets) using a nut and bolt (or other method). This prevents the sleeve from rotating and the wheel itself rotates around the sleeve which is the term “plane bore”. Its important your sleeve is slightly longer than the width of the wheel, otherwise the wheel can be clamped preventing the wheel from rotating freely.
